SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE EDUCATION
In recent years, "Emotional Intelligence" has become a more important concept. The reason for this is that the necessity of having EQ as well as a certain IQ level in order to achieve success and happiness in life is accepted as indisputable. According to the researches, individuals with high emotional intelligence are people who can establish good relationships in their family and social environment, catch success more easily, produce more and rise faster in their career.
Emotional intelligence is a concept that enables individuals to understand their own feelings, build empathy, increase motivation and develop a sense of self-confidence. Therefore, the importance given to the development of sensory intelligence is increasing day by day.
Emotional intelligence; is the ability of the person to understand their own feelings, empathize with others' feelings and organize their emotions in a way that enriches their life. Accordingly, the individual's success in life depends on his success in balancing and managing his own feelings. E.Q is briefly described in five subsections.
1. Self-knowledge (self-awareness)
Self-consciousness is basically the awareness of the individual's mood and thoughts about that mood. The self-conscious individual has a certain understanding of his emotional life.
Autonomous has a structure that is confident of its own limit, can look at life with a positive eye, even when it enters a bad mood, does not worry about it and does not worry about it, and can save itself from this situation in a short time.
The concept of personal integrity is called the bastion of self-awareness.
2. Managing Emotions (self-control)
This means that individuals neither are slaves of their passions nor suppress their emotions. In other words, to express emotions in a balanced and harmonious way. Self-regulation is to manage emotions rather than preventing the work done, to be conscientious and to delay the satisfaction of a pleasure in order to achieve the goals.
Self-motivation of the individual is not a product of an external impact, but a natural motive created in itself with the belief that he can do it and the desire to succeed. If the individual can reveal his motivation for success, think positively, use initiative and take responsibility, that is, if he can activate his positive emotions, he will be able to provide his inner motivation.
4. Understanding Others' Feelings
It is the ability to understand the feelings and thoughts of individuals in front of the person through verbal or non-verbal communication, to support the people in need emotionally and to establish the connection between the feelings / behaviours of others. In addition to being a good listener who can grasp the perspectives of others, individuals who have the ability to empathize are those who can sense emotions that cannot be expressed, who know when and where and how much to speak, and understand them by putting themselves in the shoes of others.
5. Social Skills
Social skills can be defined as the ability of individuals to effectively manage their mutual relations. In a sense, this is a result of other emotional intelligence abilities. Because individuals who know their own feelings and thoughts and can understand, the feelings of others will also be successful and effective in human relations.
Individuals with high social skills can easily connect with people around them, intelligently read their reactions and feelings, direct them and overcome the discussions that arise.
